Q: I am new to Social Media. I am thinking of either starting a blog, or article marketing, maybe a Web site. However, I don’t know which would be the best idea. Since I don’t sell anything, I don’t know if the Web site would work. My question is… do you need a blog to work with ClickBank to do affiliate marketing?Read more at blog.affiliatetip.com

Engagement through Customer Service: Your Contact Center and Social Media

This is a archive of the chat where a lot of folks pitched in and discussed the topic. Please see the archive at http://hastagsocialmedia.com and you may see great points being made

TOPIC: Developing customer relationships are about managing a series of defining moments with customers (ie: pleasant to talk to, was I treated with respect, was my inquiry answered timely, did rep answer or fulfill my question). Contact centers are traditionally very strong with telephone support so incorporating online social media into contact centers is certainly a challenge. There may be nothing as important however to developing a truly social enterprise.

TOPIC QUESTIONS
Q1) When should customer service engage with consumers using social media?
Q2) How can contact centers scale to meet the demands of social media?
Q3) How can you determine if Customer Service is being effective with social media?

And as David Letterman would say, “here we go… number 10!” (drum roll….)

10. Learning how Twitter began, the amazing history of Twitter, and the growth of Social Media in general.

9. Twitter as a non-stop feedback loop. We can listen and learn.
8. I like the quote from @Ed_Dale “Twitter is not “getting” followers-its creating a reason to be followed-you are in the hands of your market-that’s how it should be.”
6. Tweeting prior to and live tweeting at a conference helps to form our network and connect with potential candidates.
7. The concept that we trust our “friends / people in our network” vs the message that marketing might put out and wants us to hear.
5. Learned to tweet things that matter to me and Sodexo and the kind of candidates I recruit for. Start slow and not be afraid about being boring and thus not tweet at all.
3. Twitter is a conversation, not technology.
Lurking can be an effective way to get started.Read more at www.sodexocareersblog.com

What new words did you learn from social networks ?

I wrote a column in the Examiner about how Social Networks are changing the language. read the article and comment on the new words you have learnt using social networks.

Amplifyd from www.examiner.com

Social networks have begun to influence the English vocabulary. In an article titled “‘Tweetups’ and ‘unfriend’ among Oxford English Dictionary’s ‘words of the year’” The Telegraph has a list of Words of the Year 2009 commissioned by Oxford University Press which include Tweetups and Unfriend. Other words that got my attention in the list :

Hashtag – noun: a # [hash] sign added to a word or phrase that enables Twitter users to search for tweets (postings on the Twitter site) that contain similarly tagged items and view thematic sets.

Tag cloud – noun: a visual depiction of the word content of a website, or of user-generated tags attached to online content, typically using colour and font size to represent the prominence or frequency of the words or tags depicted.

Slashdot effect – noun: the slowing down or crashing of a small website due to a huge increase in traffic when the website is linked to another, much more popular one.
